Criminal Injury Claim

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) was set up by the government to pay compensation to victims of violent crime.

CICA does not pay for the cost of a lawyer and you can make a claim without using one, but it can be helpful to receive expert legal advice - especially as compensation claims over criminal injury can become very complicated.

It is essential that you report the incident that caused your personal injury to the police as quickly as possible, co-operating fully with their enquiries.

If you hesitate, the CICA may decide against paying you compensation.
